Conference Details

Sea World San Diego and the San Diego Zoo will be hosting the 2014 Southwest Regional IMATA Conference.  The highlights will include live training demonstrations involving multiple species and allows for questions and answer opportunities after each session.  Informal papers from around the region will be presented in the afternoon and evening.

This conference will benefit zoo professionals and trainers already employed in the field of animal care and training, as well as those wanting to become more involved.  This is also an excellent opportunity for individuals to learn more about IMATA as an organization and there will be representatives at the Regional from the organization to answer questions. The training demonstrations will provide a unique forum for sharing and dialogue with trainers throughout our field of all backgrounds and experience levels.

The hours of the presentations have been shifted back in the day to provide maximum opportunity for trainers around the area to join after work. 

Registration

Registration is free and does provide access to Sea World and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.  IMATA membership is encouraged and will automatically enter you into a raffle for unique encounters.  Please email Jennifer.seaworld@gmail.com to register—include days attending, IMATA membership information and your facility affiliation if any.

Conference Presentations

We encourage all attendees to present papers, however there will be limited spots in our two day conference.  They will be chosen for content as our goal is to provide a diverse representation of professional, behavior-based presentations to share.  Please submit a formal abstract NO LATER THAN 28 MARCH 2014 to Jennifer.seaworld@gmail.com.

The presentations should be in a formal format similar to IMATA Annual Conferences and presenters will be allowed a strict 15 minutes only to allow as many to share as possible. 

All presenters will be notified of acceptance by 4 April 2014.
