Animal Training Advisory Committee (ATAC)

Mission Statement:

To share animal behavior training techniques and terminology with the membership by presenting practices conducted throughout the community.

Committee General Description:

The Animal Training Advisory Committee (ATAC) shares contemporary animal training/ behavior modification techniques and terminology with the membership by presenting practices conducted throughout the community with the membership.

Committee Requirements:

Members of this committee must be from the Professional, Active, Associate, or Student levels of membership and in good standing.


 

Committee Chair Description:


GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The ATAC Committee Chair is re-appointed annually by the current President with Board approval during the annual conference.
  • The ATAC Committee Chair is expected to attend the annual meeting and attendance is preferred at the mid-year meeting.
  • The ATAC Committee Chair will be expected to prepare a quarterly report as dictated by the President’s yearly calendar. Dates for these reports are usually Jan 31, Apr 30, Jul 31, & Oct 31. These reports will be submitted to the President and the Secretary using the form in the IMATA Policy Manual.
  • IMATA compensates its ATAC Committee Chair in the following ways: membership will be paid for each year served and conference registration fees are waived.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Be a professional or active member in good standing with a solid foundation of contemporary animal training techniques. Experience with presentations and video production is also preferred.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This committee shall support the goals and objectives of the association by disseminating and promoting the use of current animal training techniques, providing advice and counsel regarding those techniques to members and other interested parties, providing input to publications and conducting other relevant activities as needed subject to the approval of the Executive Board.
  • The Animal Training Advisory Committee (ATAC) will offer a formal presentation at the annual conference addressing basic animal training concepts, techniques, applications, etc.
  • The Animal Training Advisory Committee (ATAC) chair(s), in concert with the Publications Committee will serve as managing editors of the IMATA Training and Behavioral Terms Glossary.
  • The Animal Training Advisory Committee (ATAC) will manage the IMATA Video Glossary of Training and Behavioral Terms, and continue to produce short videos to expand the existing Video Glossary.
  • The ATAC Chair will be responsible for updating the job description when she or he leaves the position, or at a minimum of every two years. The job description should contain the following information:
    • Position Title
    • Revision Date
    • Basic Job Description
    • Responsibilities
    • Annual Timeline/Flow Chart
