Seminar Description:
 
Megan Saylor and Jennifer Wiles present on the Columbus Zoo's successful improvements to its animal wellbeing program, showcasing how new assessment tools and streamlined processes have boosted staff satisfaction, effectiveness, and interdepartmental collaboration, while also outlining plans for further enhancements. This presentation received 2nd Place in the Conservation and Education award category at the 2025 IMATA Annual Conference held this past March in Chicago, IL.

 

About the Presenters:

Jennifer Wiles:
Jennifer has a degree in Zoology and Psychology from The Ohio State Univeristy in Ohio. She is a Zookeeper IV on the Congo Expedition team at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and is currently serving as the Chair for the Zoo's Animal Wellbeing Zookeeper Committee. Previously, Jennider has worked in animal care at the John G. Shedd Aquarium, Wildlife Safari, and Akron Zoo. She is passionate about animal behavior and conservation and is inspired by the wonder of nature and the resillence of life iteslf. 

Megan Saylor:
Megan Saylor has a degree in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston, South Carolina. She is a Pinniped Senior Specialist on the Wild Encounters team at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and previously served as the Chair for the Zoo's Animal Wellbeing Zookeeper Committee. She currently serves as the Board Treasurer for IMATA. Previously, Megan worked for the National Marine Mammal Foundation, Wildlife Conservation Society, and South Carolina Aquarium. She is a passionate marine conservationist and diehard Ohio State Buckeye fan.
