In this study, we examined the visitor effect on whether human patron presence influenced the behavior of harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) that are maintained at the Long Island Aquarium. First, we measured the number of head orientation responses as they correlated to escalating numbers of visitors who were viewing seals from outside the exhibit. Secondly, we then expanded our data set and measured 18 total behavioral responses as they correlated to escalating number of viewing patrons.
