Drive Fisheries Statement

IMATA's Mission Statement

"The International Marine Animal Trainers' Association is dedicated to advancing the humane care and handling of marine animals by fostering communication between professionals that serve marine animal science through training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education."

IMATA provides a forum for thoughtful dialogue among a large, diverse, and growing international membership of individuals representing varying cultures, mores, and national laws. Through an IMATA membership, trainers have access to a global network of training professionals, resources such as educational publications, and opportunities to attend IMATA’s professional meetings where the most current training information, research, and husbandry practices are shared. This helps to ensure the well-being of animals living in zoological settings around the world.

IMATA Core Values

IMATA’s first priority is always the well-being of all animals.

IMATA extends membership to individuals who believe in IMATA’s mission and support its goals.

IMATA emphasizes the continuing education of animal trainers and care providers.

Drive Fisheries Statement

IMATA strongly opposes the slaughter of whales and dolphins that occurs in drive fisheries.

Individuals participating in the deliberate killing of dolphins in a drive fishery are not eligible for IMATA membership.
