Awards at the IMATA Annual Conference
Outernet Technologies Award
Outernet Technologies is sponsoring its 8th annual award recognizing the best or most innovative use of science and technology in training sessions, shows, play sessions, husbandry, conference presentations, or record keeping for any formal, informal, or poster presentation. Prizes include $200 (USD) for 1st place and $100 (USD) for 2nd place.
SAIC BioSolutions Art Contest
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is the proud, longtime sponsor of the photo/art/humor contest. Contestants must be IMATA members. It does not matter if entries have appeared elsewhere, or if they were submitted (but did not win) at a past year’s conference. The categories are: Photo, Art, and Humor.
The rules are:
- Photographs, cartoons, or artwork must feature marine animals or related training activities.
- Any type of photography or artwork is acceptable: color or black and white prints, 35 mm slides, paintings, beadwork, sketches, woodwork, cartoons, logos, etc. BE CREATIVE!
- Entries should be submitted under the appropriate category and must be registered at the conference table no later than Wednesday, 8 November 2006 at 6:00pm; judging will be conducted that evening.
Please be sure your name, affiliation, and art category are indicated on the back of your submission in a way that cannot be seen by the judges. Once submitted, the category cannot be changed. Only one category per submission, please. For example, a humorous photograph could qualify for both the photography and the humor categories; however, only one or the other can be chosen at the time of submission. There is no limit on the number of submissions.
One 1st place prize of $200 (USD) and one 2nd place prize of $100 (USD) will be awarded for each category. In the event NO artwork is submitted to a category, the 1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded in another category as determined by the contest judge(s). If there is only one submission to a category, that one will get 1st place prize for that category. If there are only two submissions in a category, they will win the 1st and 2nd place prizes. An additional $100 (USD) will be awarded for best overall. So, make sure to enter. You do have to be a member, but you do not need to be at the conference- just get someone to bring your entry.
You are responsible for reclaiming artwork after the judging has been completed; winners will be announced and awarded their prizes during the banquet at the end of the conference.
The Editor's Choice Award
The Editor's Choice Award, sponsored by the Dolphin Connection, is given to the expanded abstract that most effectively and accurately follows the formatting guidelines for the Proceedings and requires the least amount of editing. This award is chosen prior to the conference by the Chief Editor of Proceedings, the Publications Chair, and Doug and Cheryl Messinger. It will be presented during the awards ceremony at the banquet. The prize is $300 and is designed to encourage better writing and adherence to formatting protocols.
