Weather and Travel Information

WEATHER

Temperatures in Boston in early December average between 28 – 42 degrees F. Bring a jacket and appropriate outerwear to be ready for walks in the city.

TRAVEL

Boston is very accessible by plane and train (Amtrak). Traveling by car can be problematic due to traffic and parking is expensive throughout the downtown area.

Boston’s Logan Airport is located in East Boston, serving the city of Boston and the greater New England area. America's sixth busiest airport, Logan International Airport handles domestic flights and international connections to and from the Pacific Rim, Europe, and Latin America.

Logan International Airport has five terminals, with an expanded Terminal E, airport transit facilities, and parking. A choice of ground transportation options includes car rental, shuttles, MBTA buses, taxis, and water taxis, with the airport just four miles (six kilometers) northeast of Boston.

The Seaport Hotel is conveniently located three miles from Logan International Airport. For just $2.00 USD the MBTA Silver Line Waterfront (SL1) provides service from the World Trade Center Station to Logan International Airport every 10 minutes during the weekday and every 15 minutes during the weekend. The silver line station is located adjacent to the hotel. Taxis are readily available at the airport and hotel lobby for your convenience.

Another option is the Water Taxi for $10.00 USD. This is a scenic way to travel and a great way to avoid traffic. Hop on the water taxi shuttle at your airport terminal and enjoy the ride. The stop for pick up and drop off is at the Seaport World Trade Center, directly across the street from the Seaport hotel.

PLANNING YOUR TIME IN BOSTON

Plan on taking full advantage of the great restaurants, eateries pubs, and historical sites Boston has to offer.  We are planning a free night to allow IMATA attendees to enjoy the town!  (This will be followed by a late start to general session the next day).  Once you have arrived at the Seaport Hotel you will need a way to get around town to take full advantage of what this great city has to offer. We strongly encourage conference attendees go to www.mbta.com and explore the “Charlie Card” option for subway travel on "The T."  For just $15.00 you can enjoy one week of unlimited travel on the Boston’s subway system.

If you have questions or simply need help planning your visit to Boston, New England Aquarium’s Jenny Montague has graciously offered to serve as IMATA’s “Travel Agent” for Boston attendees. If you have any questions about your trip to Boston or simply want advice on sites to visit within the city, feel free to contact Jenny at jmontague@neaq.org.
