THE IMATA RESEARCH GRANT IS NOW ACCEPTING PROPOSALS ALL YEAR

Purpose:

The International Marine Animal Trainers Association Research Grant was founded in 2011 to provide financial support for investigations which address IMATA’s mission to advance the humane care and handling of marine animals by fostering communication between professionals that serve marine animal science through training, public display, research, husbandry, conservation, and education.

Goals:

  • To make significant contributions towards marine animal oriented research issues.
  • To promote research efforts in the domestic and international marine animal community.
  • To increase IMATA member awareness of research initiatives occurring in the marine animal field.
  • To promote the “IMATA Gives Back” philosophy.
  • To expand IMATA’s role and position in the scientific community.
  • To increase the number of research-oriented & scientific IMATA members.

Review/Approval/Denial Procedures:

  • A Sub-Committee of the IMATA Research & Conservation Committee participates in a two-tier review of all received IMATA Research Grant Applications.
  • Funding will be denied if applications are not complete, of significant merit, do not support IMATA's mission, or if the Principle Investigator(s) fail to agree to IMATA’s Terms of Acceptance, provide Statement(s) of Organizational Support, or copies of required IACUC approval or permits (if applicable).
  • The Sub-Committee will present award recommendations to the IMATA Board of Directors for consideration.
  • The IMATA Board of Directors will vote to determine if, and how much, funding will be awarded to the recommended Grant Applications.
  • Funding award amounts may be reduced from the requested amount in order to accommodate other awards or if the IMATA Board determines that dispersal of these funds interfere with IMATA’s fiscal solvency.
  • Principle Investigator(s) will be notified of the Board’s funding decision after the annual board meeting. (Occurs just prior to the annual conference.).
  • Award funds will be made available as quickly as possible.
